THE WATCH COLLECTORS' CLUB
The watch collectors club have established themselves as an enthusiast group for watch enthusiasts UK wide. Hamish at the helm along with Ed Howkins have created a group for meets, both run locally and nationally in cities such as London, Manchester and Glasgow. Members can attend nationally in retail spaces for brand discussions and be informed or attend events with the club abroad to watch events. The basis however is to just chat with other collectors at meets.
The latest Scottish event at Hampden Park built on the scale of last year’s event with its brand exhibitors and attendees.
True to the ethos of the collectors club all price points of brand were represented, exhibitors were tailored for a crowd of watch enthusiasts who appreciated the wide range of aesthetics and different genres of watches available to get hands on with.
David and Ricky from Scottish Watches presented a live podcast on the day for an audience of horology hungry people.
Featured were local guest speakers such as watch repair and servicing specialists Martin of Martin’s of Glasgow, Billy of Hora Watches and brand representatives from Nodus, Elliot Brown, Watch Gecko and Lyon & Turnbull auction house, the sponsor, and of course Hamish himself. I may have missed someone.
The day was a huge success and I personally made a purchase from a new brand to me, the Mezei Watch Company. Every exhibitor was open to chat and allow you to try on their watches. A few even wanted to try on mine.
The event was busy with people without feeling oppressive. The venue, the home of Scottish football, was fitting for how the event has grown.
Catch up with horology friends, chatting to new people and having a laugh, what the hobby should really be all about. Even squeezed in a beer or two which in no way helped purchasing decision making.
The event left a lot of people waiting in excitement and expectation for next year. I personally had a great day and the feedback was so positive.
A professional event run with a personal touch.
