The French manufacture Pequignet once again showcases its creativity and precision with a special version of its iconic Concorde model, developed in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Matthias Marc. This limited edition of only 50 pieces is more than just a watch, it is an authentic dialogue between watchmaking and gastronomy, where technique and passion meet in every detail.
A Culinary Reinterpretation of a Classic Watch
Matthias Marc, ambassador of Pequignet for the past two years, brought his unique vision to the project. Inspired by French gastronomy, he aimed for the watch to convey the same intensity and mastery found in the kitchen. As he himself states:
"The knife is an extension of the chef's hand. Damascus steel tells the story of gesture, repetition, mastery. I wanted my watch to convey the same intensity."
After several visits to the manufacture, Marc immersed himself in every stage of development, exploring techniques and possibilities, and collaborating closely with Pequignet’s artisans.
Damascus Steel: The Heart of the Concorde Damas Edition
The most distinctive element of this collaboration is the use of Damascus steel, known for its strength and unique wavy patterns. Traditionally used in chef’s knives, this material becomes the heart of watchmaking. The Concorde Damas’s dial and bezel are entirely made from Damascus steel, cut from a solid block, shaped into fine round components, and polished with extreme precision. Each step of the process requires skill and delicacy, reflecting the same attention to detail that a chef applies to their dishes.
Design and Presentation Inspired by the Kitchen
The Concorde Damas stands out not only for its dial and bezel but also for its case and accessories. The watch case is inspired by professional knife sheaths, and the leather presentation box is crafted by Maison Boinet, a living French heritage company, like Pequignet.
In addition to the watch, the set includes an interchangeable black rubber strap and a pocket knife whose blade is also made of Damascus steel and whose beechwood handle from the Jura pays tribute to the shared roots of the chef and the manufacture. This knife was made by FAROL, another French living heritage company, strengthening the connection between tradition, technique, and craftsmanship.
French Movement: Calibre Initial
Inside the Concorde Damas beats the Calibre Initial, Pequignet’s third in-house movement. This artisanal mechanism features a central seconds hand, a 65-hour power reserve, and precision adjusted in six positions with a tolerance of -4 to +6 seconds per day. The manufacture ensures that 72 percent of the components are of French origin, all sourced within an 80 km radius, reinforcing its commitment to local, high-quality watchmaking.
A Symbol of Precision and Mastery
The collaboration between Pequignet and Matthias Marc goes beyond the watch as an object. It represents the fusion of two worlds where precision, gesture, and creativity are essential. Every detail of the Concorde Damas reflects deep respect for technique, tradition, and aesthetics, making it a coveted piece for both watch enthusiasts and gastronomy lovers.
With only 50 pieces available, the Concorde Damas is more than a watch. It is a tribute to art and precision, a creation where haute horology and haute cuisine meet in perfect harmony.
