HUBLOT MP-14 ORIGIN BY JEFF KOONS: THE BIRTH OF THE UNIVERSE ON THE WRIST

Hublot and Jeff Koons present the MP-14 Origin by Jeff Koons, a creation that brings together high watchmaking, high jewelry and contemporary art to represent the creation of the cosmos on a microscopic scale. Unveiled in New York on September 16, 2026, the watch seeks to capture the instant when everything begins to expand. Its architecture combines sapphire, titanium and gem-set white gold, while its development introduces Hublot’s first automatic central tourbillon. Limited to 30 pieces, the MP-14 Origin belongs to the Exceptional Timepieces collection, dedicated to radical mechanical concepts, advanced materials and unconventional architectures.

A collaboration built around transformation

The collaboration between Hublot and Jeff Koons is rooted in a shared vision of transformation. Koons has built his artistic career around transforming recognizable objects and forms through scale, materials and precision, while Hublot develops its Art of Fusion concept by combining materials, techniques and disciplines. In the MP-14 Origin, these two perspectives meet in a timepiece that interprets the origin of the universe through mechanics.

For Koons, the central tourbillon represents the first impulse, while the rest of the architecture appears to expand around it. The name MP-14 also refers to the number 14, connected to the address of the artist’s first solo exhibition, held in 1980 at the New Museum in New York, when it was located at 65 Fifth Avenue, at 14th Street.

An architecture built in sapphire

The watch features a 44 mm octagonal case made of sapphire and titanium. The sapphire case requires approximately 534 hours of machining and is completed with a titanium case back, screws and Hublot’s signature “ears” at 3 and 9 o’clock.

Inside, concentric white gold rings set with baguette-cut diamonds and blue sapphires create orbital layers around the center. A transparent sapphire dome, inspired by Koons’ Gazing Ball works and manually coated with translucent blue varnish, protects the tourbillon.

Hours and minutes are displayed through two suspended rotating rings carrying indicator cubes. The hour indicator is made of polished stainless steel with translucent red varnish, while the minute indicator is made of polished stainless steel. Two additional rings remain fixed and use blue sapphires to mark the hours and quarters. Altogether, the four rings contain 202 stones, totaling approximately 2.6 carats.

The movement at the heart of the creation

The HUB9014 is a manufacture movement featuring a central automatic tourbillon and peripheral oscillating weight. It operates at 3 Hz, equivalent to 21,600 vibrations per hour, and provides a 60-hour power reserve. The movement consists of 594 components and 55 jewels, with a diameter of 39.20 mm and a thickness of 14.65 mm.

The peripheral oscillating weight keeps the architecture around the tourbillon open, while its central position beneath the sapphire dome makes it the visual and mechanical core of the timepiece. Two concealed crown systems allow the watch to be wound and the time to be adjusted. The first is identified by “ENERGY PULSE” and the second by “COSMIC ALIGN.”

The design continues onto the wrist with an integrated sapphire bracelet secured by titanium screws and paired with a sapphire and titanium deployant clasp.

Sapphire as part of the architecture

The MP-14 Origin reflects Hublot’s evolution in the use of sapphire. The Manufacture began its journey in sapphire watchmaking in 2016 with the Big Bang Unico Sapphire and later developed new applications, including colored translucent sapphire and complete architectural constructions.

In 2026, Hublot expanded this approach by using sapphire as both a decorative and structural element. In the MP-14 Origin, the material allows the movement and suspended elements that form its architecture to remain visible.

Even the presentation continues this concept. The case uses an infinite mirror installation, LED illumination and a one-way mirror technique to create a sense of limitless depth. Its octagonal geometry and transparent dome extend the visual language of the watch into its presentation.

A limited edition

The MP-14 Origin by Jeff Koons is limited to 30 pieces and is available at selected Hublot points of sale. The watch bears reference 914.NJ.0100.JX.9941, offers 3 ATM water resistance and combines sapphire, titanium, 18K white gold, diamonds and blue sapphires.

With the HUB9014 at the center of its architecture, the MP-14 Origin transforms mechanical movement, transparency and structure into an interpretation of the origin and expansion of the universe. It is a timepiece where Jeff Koons’ artistic vision and Hublot’s watchmaking experimentation converge in an edition of just 30 pieces.
