Matthew Robin Machanda is a Toronto-based photographer, producer, and writer with over fifteen years shooting editorial, commercial, reportage, and fine art portraiture for clients. By day, he runs production and brand partnerships for filmmaker and content creator Chris Hau; but off the clock, he's usually somewhere between a camera bag, a glass of wine, and a watch box.
His Substack, Mere Humanity, is where the two interests meet — essays on art, craftsmanship, and the objects worth paying attention to, written in a literary, unhurried register. His own collection leans vintage and collector-grade, with a particular pull toward British menswear sensibilities and pieces built to be worn rather than shown off. He's also been tracing his Indian Kodava heritage through a family crest project — a reminder that most of what he writes about, watches included, is really about what gets passed down.
