Why Would You Only Offer One Color for Women?

Exploring Abingdon Watches’ New Las Vegas Store

In the heart of the Arts District in Las Vegas, something special is happening. We had the pleasure of visiting the new Abingdon Co. space alongside the brand’s inspiring founder, Abingdon Chelsea (Welch) Mullin, a true trailblazer redefining what it means to build watches for women who do more.

 

A Brand Built with Purpose

For over 18 years, Abingdon Watches has been creating timepieces that are more than accessories; they’re tools for adventure.

Each model is designed with professional women in mind: pilots, divers, racers, and explorers. Every piece carries at least four additional functions beyond timekeeping, including GMT indicators, slide rules, and world timers. All are water-resistant, shock-resistant, and equipped with sapphire crystals built to take a beating and still look beautiful.

“We build watches for women who do more,” says Abingdon.

 

 

From Cockpits to Collections

The brand’s origin story is as authentic as it gets. In her early 20s, while earning her pilot’s license at Santa Monica Airport, Abingdon couldn’t find a pilot’s watch that fit her wrist or her identity. Most were bulky, oversized, and designed with men in mind.

So she decided to make her own.

With help from her fellow female pilots, she developed the Amelia and Jackie models named after aviation legends, and both remain icons in the collection today. The Jackie, adorned with 64 stones around its bezel and a mother-of-pearl dial, remains the brand’s top seller.

 

Las Vegas Lights, Purpose-Built Precision

Inside the Las Vegas showroom, visitors will find not only craftsmanship but also character. The new Jordan model, celebrating the racing world, features a champagne dial inspired by speed and precision, complete with “Las Vegas” around the tachymeter and the phrase “It’s Time to Race” engraved on the caseback.

The Elise, currently the brand’s best-seller, embodies global versatility with a 33 mm case and triple time-zone functionality. The Nadia dive watch impresses with its extended strap designed to fit over wetsuits — and even includes a built-in 23 cm ruler engraved on the caseback. Small details that prove these watches are meant for real use, not just display.

 

History Meets Heritage: The WASP Watch

Perhaps the most meaningful creation in the Abingdon lineup is the WASP Watch, honoring the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II.

 

Only 1,112 women served in the program and fittingly, only 112 pieces of this model were produced. Each dial celebrates the courage of these trailblazers who ferried aircraft, trained pilots, and risked their lives to serve their country.

Beyond “Pink It and Shrink It”

Abingdon’s perspective on the watch industry is refreshingly direct:

“A lot of brands think making a watch for women means just making it smaller and pink,” she says. “But why would you only offer one color for women? Men get greens, blues, and browns — women deserve the same variety.”

It’s a statement that resonated deeply during our visit. Diversity in design reflects diversity in lifestyle, and this brand champions both.

 

A Destination Worth the Trip

While online education and awareness remain crucial, there’s no substitute for the in-person experience. As we discussed during our visit, 92% of watches are still sold in person because a watch is emotional.

It’s about how it feels on your wrist, the story it tells, and the people you meet when discovering it.

The Abingdon Co. Las Vegas store is currently open by appointment, offering enthusiasts the chance to meet the team, experience the collection firsthand, and feel the energy of a brand built by and for real women adventurers.
