One of the things I enjoy most about the Windup Watch Fair is how it brings together brands and personalities that have become cornerstones of the enthusiast community. From July 11–13, 2025, WatchDNA was in Chicago to cover the fair, and one highlight was my interview with Marc Frankel, the founder of Long Island Watch — a name that needs little introduction to collectors across North America.
In our interview, Marc featured two excellent timepieces:
The Islander Melville GMT – White Golf Ball Dial
One of the models Marc featured was the Islander Melville GMT nicknamed for its striking golf ball hammer-textured dial in crisp white. Paired with a GMT complication, this piece is a conversation starter that blends functionality with a playful aesthetic. It’s sporty, distinctive, and perfectly captures Islander’s spirit of making watches that stand out without breaking the bank.

The Republic Traveller GMT – Blue Dial
Equally compelling was the Islander Republic Traveller GMT (ISL-238). With its deep blue dial, luminous accents, and travel-ready functionality, the Republic Traveller feels both practical and stylish. It’s the kind of piece that appeals to enthusiasts who want a versatile GMT for daily wear, while still enjoying the type of value proposition that has defined the Islander brand.

The Islander collection showcased at Windup Chicago was proof that passion-driven watchmaking can thrive at accessible price points — without cutting corners on design or mechanical integrity. Long Island Watch remains a beacon for enthusiasts, and under Marc’s leadership, its future looks as strong as ever.
Time is more than seconds ticking away. It is a catalyst for transformation. Stay tuned for more highlights from the Windup Watch Fair, coming soon to WatchDNA.
