ORIS X CERVO VOLANTE: THE BIG CROWN AMONG FORESTS AND TRADITION
With the arrival of autumn, the forests of the Waldenburg Valley surrounding the Oris factory in Hölstein begin to change color. In this setting, Oris renews its collaboration with Swiss leather company Cervo Volante to present a new special edition of the Big Crown Pointer Date, now featuring a deep burgundy tone and a strap made from sustainably sourced deer leather.
The collaboration between Oris and Cervo Volante has its roots in a story that brings together nature, craftsmanship, and the responsible use of resources. Founded in 2017 by two female entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotechnology and wildlife management, Cervo Volante develops footwear and accessories using sustainable deer leather sourced from the Swiss mountains.
A collaboration with Swiss roots
Every year, Swiss authorities work to manage the country's deer population. Rather than allowing the hides generated through this process to go to waste, Cervo Volante uses them to create sustainable products. The leather receives natural treatment at one of the last remaining vegetable tanning facilities in Switzerland, while its natural imperfections are left intact.
This philosophy is also present in Oris's new special edition. The watch features a sustainable deer leather strap from Cervo Volante in brown, equipped with a quick-change system. Each watch also comes with a travel pouch made from the same sustainable deer leather.
The Big Crown Pointer Date in burgundy
For this collaboration, Oris has chosen one of its most representative models, the Big Crown Pointer Date. The watch has been part of the brand's collection since 1938 and, in this edition, features a 40 mm stainless steel case.
Its design retains some of the elements that have defined the model throughout its history, including the fluted bezel, oversized crown, and distinctive central hand that indicates the date. This time, all these elements find a new context thanks to the burgundy dial, a color deeply associated with the arrival of autumn.
The case features a multi-piece construction and is made of stainless steel. It has a domed sapphire crystal on both sides with anti-reflective treatment on the inside. The back features a screwed stainless steel case back with a transparent mineral crystal, while the security crown is made of stainless steel and is screw-down. The watch offers water resistance to 5 bar, with a lug width of 20 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 48.20 mm, and a thickness of 12.20 mm.
A Swiss Made automatic movement
Inside, the Oris x Cervo Volante is powered by the Oris Calibre 754, a Swiss Made automatic movement measuring 25.60 mm in diameter and 11 1/2''' in thickness. The movement offers a power reserve of 41 hours, operates at a frequency of 4 Hz, equivalent to 28,800 vibrations per hour, and features 26 jewels.
Its functions include central hours, minutes, and seconds, along with a central date hand. The movement features an instantaneous date, date corrector, fine adjustment device, and stop-seconds function.
On the burgundy dial, the indices, numerals, and hands feature Super-LumiNova®, while the indices are printed. The combination of the dial, the characteristic design of the Big Crown Pointer Date, and the deer leather strap creates an interpretation that is particularly connected to the colors and atmosphere of autumn.
A special edition inspired by nature
The Oris x Cervo Volante Ref. No. 01 754 7785 4038-Set brings together two stories that find common ground in the Swiss landscape. On one side is the Big Crown Pointer Date, a model that has been part of the Oris collection since 1938. On the other is Cervo Volante and its approach of transforming deer leather sourced through population management into sustainable products.
