DELFIN 1961: THE ORIGINAL RETURNS

In 1961, Edox introduced the Delfin, a watch that would become one of the defining models in the brand’s history and help establish its reputation as “The Water Champion” of Swiss watchmaking. More than six decades later, the story continues with the Edox Delfin 1961 Date Automatic Limited Edition, a faithful re-edition that brings the character of the original into the present while preserving the design language that made it so distinctive.

A legacy built for the water

The original Delfin was developed with water resistance at the heart of its identity. Its double caseback and specially engineered gaskets provided an important level of protection, helping the model establish Edox as a serious force in water-resistant watchmaking. The watch even became associated with the cliff divers of Acapulco, where it was exposed to demanding conditions that tested its durability and reliability.

That heritage remains central to the Delfin 1961. Rather than simply reproducing a vintage design, Edox has created a modern interpretation that respects the original watch while incorporating contemporary performance. The new model features a 41 mm stainless steel case, a screw-down crown, a reinforced caseback and a double O-ring system, contributing to its 200 metres of water resistance, or 20 ATM.

Honoring the original

The Delfin 1961 Date Automatic Limited Edition takes its visual cues directly from the watch launched in 1961. Its rounded case, clean dial architecture and domed sapphire crystal preserve the understated character of the original, while the updated construction gives the watch the robustness expected from a modern timepiece.

The result is a watch that avoids unnecessary decoration. Its appeal comes from the balance between its historical character and contemporary functionality. Luminescent hands and/or indices provide practical readability, while the sapphire crystal offers modern protection without compromising the vintage-inspired appearance.

At its heart, the watch is powered by the Edox Calibre 80, based on the Sellita SW200, with hours, minutes and seconds displayed on the dial.

Two dial variations, one unmistakable identity

The collection is offered in black and cream dial variations, giving the Delfin 1961 two distinct personalities while maintaining the same design DNA.

The black version presents a more understated and contemporary expression, while the cream dial emphasizes the model’s connection with its historical roots. Both versions maintain the clean and balanced aesthetic that defines the re-edition, allowing the case shape and dial details to remain at the center of the design.

A limited edition with a special presentation

Edox has limited each dial variation to 265 pieces, making both references particularly exclusive. The restricted production reinforces the connection between the modern Delfin 1961 and its historical predecessor, while giving collectors the opportunity to own a contemporary interpretation of an important chapter in Edox’s history.

Each watch is presented in an exclusive metal box inspired by the advertising era of the original Delfin. The packaging draws from the bold graphic language associated with the model’s early communication, turning the presentation itself into part of the experience.

The set also includes an additional leather strap with a quick-release system, providing an alternative look and greater versatility for everyday wear.

The Delfin returns

The Edox Delfin 1961 Date Automatic Limited Edition brings together more than 65 years of history, design and water-resistant watchmaking. With its 41 mm stainless steel case, 200-metre water resistance, automatic movement and faithful visual details, it respects the spirit of the 1961 original while adapting it for a new generation.

The world has changed considerably since the Delfin first appeared, but the philosophy behind the watch remains remarkably consistent. Legends do not retire. They resurface.
