ZBIOLAND builds its identity out of its own name, which the house breaks into three parts. Z is short for Zero Origin: the starting point of all creation, and a symbol of avant-garde exploration that echoes the brand's design inspirations in interstellar machinery, urban architecture and pioneering engineering aesthetics. BIO derives from the Greek root bios, meaning life and vitality — because machinery, in the brand's view, is far more than cold gears: it strives to endow every watch with life, to let movements possess their own heartbeat and to infuse time with a vivid soul. LAND means realm or territory, representing an exclusive creative domain for original mechanical watchmaking, a boundless world free from the limitations of traditional horology in which the house can freely explore the art of machinery. Combined, the name defines a realm of mechanical creativity born from the origin and empowered with the vitality of life.
Founder Lu Jinzhi has been deeply involved in the watch industry for more than 20 years, and found in the speed and passion of mechanical construction his own code of life. From a young age his painting skills led him to apply the science fiction concepts in his mind through diverse channels; inspired by his passion for elements of life, he designed the appearance of a wristwatch and foresaw a bright future within it. ZBIOLAND was born from that in 2021. The house argues that in the era of AI the bold and wild imagination of the future once carried by science fiction novels and films is gradually becoming our lived reality — peculiar, fascinating and ever-changing — declaring that the future has arrived. In the name of machinery, ZBIOLAND anticipates that future.
