Founded in 1993 by Philippe Lebru in Besançon — the historic capital of French watchmaking — UTINAM was born from a desire to break the codes of traditional horology and reimagine the very way we conceive and experience time. Artist, inventor, and free thinker, Lebru brings a background untethered from conventional watchmaking traditions, trusting instinct over doctrine to create mechanical art works that constantly question our relationship with time.
UTINAM's creations span clocks, watches, and automata — mechanical and kinetic art objects that offer a time beyond simple measurement: autonomous, free to repeat infinitely, and designed to inhabit intimate or open spaces alike. Some watches carry the prestigious Vipère chronométrique quality seal. The brand has been recognised with the Grand Prix du Concours Lépine 2005 and the Gold Medal at the Geneva Invention Fair.
The UTINAM Manufacture, located at 117–119 Grande Rue in Besançon facing the Musée du Temps, houses the production workshop, assembly area, and design studio — the place where every UTINAM creation takes flight.
