Unimatic is an Italian watch brand founded in Milan in 2015 by two friends and industrial designers, Giovanni Moro and Simone Nunziato, who wanted watches that celebrate both heritage and modernity. Its first piece, the Modello Uno U1-A, was a diver released in a limited edition of 300, and the brand has stayed true to the idea behind it: "an icon is defined not by excess, but by what remains when everything unnecessary is removed." Every design is limited and numbered, and once a reference is gone it is not reproduced. Since 2021 assembly and testing have been carried out in-house near Milan, and the brand also runs a flagship store in the city.
The catalogue is built on a handful of numbered models. The Modello Uno is the 41.5 mm diver; the Modello Due, from 2016, is a field watch with a symmetrical case and ultra-domed crystals; the Modello Tre, from 2018, was the first chrono-diver, with 300 m of water resistance and screw-down pusher guards; the Modello Quattro of 2020 reworked the Uno with a fixed monoblock bezel; and the Modello Cinque, introduced in 2023 with Massena Lab, was the first 36 mm Unimatic. They are spread across a permanent Classic line, launched in 2021 with stripped-down dials, purpose-built toolwatches including GMT versions, limited editions and the new ICON collection of four titanium references. Watches start at around €430, with most near €800 and the titanium pieces up to about €3,000.
Collaboration has been part of the brand from the start: the U1-C made with the Paris concept store Colette in 2016 was its first, and co-branded projects have followed every year since, among them Hodinkee editions with forged carbon cases.
