MINIM is a London microbrand founded in 2025 by Chloe, born and raised in Hong Kong and living in Britain since 2019. The name comes from the Chinese character 旻, meaning autumn — the season in which the first ideas for the brand took shape — while the word itself is a mirrored palindrome, read the same way from either end, chosen for the symmetry and balance the watches are built around. Working in finance and long drawn to Breguet, A. Lange & Söhne and the slim dress watches of the 1970s to the 1990s, the founder was pushed towards starting her own brand by the microbrand and independent scene: creative, daring and free to challenge convention. A conversation with a fellow collector settled it.
The first watch, the MN01, is a dress piece of deliberately classical proportions: 36.5 mm across, 9.5 mm tall including the flat anti-reflective sapphire, 43.5 mm lug to lug on 20 mm lugs, in 316L stainless steel with a push-pull onion crown, 5 ATM of water resistance and a screwed-in sapphire exhibition caseback. Inside runs a Swiss Sellita SW 261-1M in D1 élaboré grade — a small-seconds automatic beating at 28,800 vph with a 38-hour reserve — and the watches are designed, assembled and quality-controlled in Great Britain. What the MN01 is really about, though, is its dial: each version carries an intricate CNC guilloché pattern that draws on the traditions of decorative watchmaking, dressed in colours named in Cantonese — Laan4 蘭, Bik1 碧 and Zing1 晶, the last described as crystalline skies and glacial streams. They are priced at £1,199 on leather and nubuck straps made by HasNoBounds.
Two limited editions have followed. 嬌 (Giu1), a Lunar New Year piece of 50 for the Year of the Horse, takes its red from the founder's Hong Kong childhood and its name from her mother, herself born in a horse year. The MINIM × MIC MN01, limited to 25, marks the second anniversary of the Micro Indy Collective — the collectors' and brand owners' community where much of MINIM was talked into existence before a single prototype was made — and wears a black-and-gold dial in the Collective's colours inside a gold DLC case.
