McGonigle is Ireland's only authentic handmade watch brand, established in 2006 by Stephen McGonigle. Rooted in a childhood surrounded by clocks and timepieces — his father, Johnny McGonigle, was a well-known clock repair enthusiast — Stephen went on to build one of the most rigorous horological careers of his generation: graduating from the Irish Swiss Institute of Horology, restoring antique watches at Somlo Antiques in London, developing complications and tourbillons at Christophe Claret, and serving as Head of Complications at both Frank Muller and Breguet — where he worked on the restoration of the legendary Sympathique clock. In 2003 he opened his own independent atelier before founding the McGonigle brand in 2006. Splitting his time between workshops in Dublin and Switzerland, McGonigle bridges Irish design and Swiss engineering to produce unique pieces and high complications in strictly limited numbers. Each timepiece draws deeply from Irish mythology, language, and heritage: from the Ogham alphabet to the legend of Cúchulainn to the ancient Irish names given to every creation. Technical hallmarks include fully in-house calibres, sapphire crystal dials that expose the entire movement, hand-engraved cases, and wolf's-tooth gearing — a 19th-century technique requiring extensive manual labour.
