The Cybex Collection by Mc Onsen is an independent Swiss brand that makes analogue watches for children, built around one idea: a watch a child wears every day is also the one thing they can never leave at home. The founders trace the project back to a memory rather than a business plan — a small hand letting go of a father's coat in a crowded town centre — and to the same feeling years later, in a sunny park, watching their own children wander a little too far out of sight. Their conclusion was that while kids deserve the freedom to explore, parents deserve a safety net that actually works, and that they would rather build the tool they wish they had had than a tracker.
That safety net is engraved, not powered. Every watch carries a unique QR code laser-etched into the case back, linked to the brand's Find My Family platform: a parent sets up a profile when the watch is bought and chooses what it shows — typically the child's name, a contact number, a second emergency contact and any critical medical alerts such as allergies — and can change those details later without changing the watch. Anyone who scans the code with an ordinary smartphone camera reaches that page; no dedicated app is needed. Because the code is passive it emits no signal and no radiation, it cannot run out of battery, and being etched into the metal it will not fade, peel or scratch off. The brand teaches children a three-rule script to go with it: stay put, look for a mother, and show the watch.
The watches themselves are conceived for early school age, with bold, high-contrast hour and minute hands meant to turn telling the time into a skill a child wants to practise — the house even publishes free printables for learning the hours. The range is split into two families. Tredi is the thematic line, with a PVC strap, acrylic glass, a polycarbonate case and a stainless steel buckle. Chou-Chou answers with a printed PU strap and a polycarbonate case and buckle, and is the line the brand describes as blending vibrant design with Swiss precision. Both run on a Japanese Maxell SR626 battery rated for around thirty-six months and are water resistant to 3 ATM / 30 metres — enough for handwashing, puddles and the messier end of a playground afternoon.
