Bangalore Watch Company was founded in 2018 by husband and wife team Nirupesh Joshi and Mercy Amalraj, who left their careers behind and returned home to start an Indian-origin watch brand. Fascinated by the world of fine watchmaking worldwide and self-described outsiders to the watch industry, they set out from Bangalore — which the brand calls India's watchmaking ground-zero — with a deliberate counter-narrative in mind: where the popular worldview of India is of elephants, snake-charmers, exotic gods and oriental motifs, theirs is of space exploration, advanced computing, and Indian women flying fighter planes.

Since 2018 the company has produced world-class wristwatches that are designed, engineered and assembled in Bangalore, each collection telling a story inspired by a 21st century view of India. Its collections include MACH 1, a pilot watch line celebrating stories from Indian aviation; Apogee, the first Indian watch qualified for outer space; and the Peninsula Professional, a bezel-less sports watch inspired by India's mountains, coastlines and forests. The founders have built a small, talented team in Bangalore focused on the ownership experience, and the brand has built a quiet but enthusiastic following worldwide, guided by the idea that a customer should not simply wear a watch but wear a story they can connect with.
