AV86 is a Copenhagen watch brand founded in 2014 by childhood friends Thomas Andersen and Sebastian Skov, who launched it as About Vintage after a conversation on a Mexican beach about making vintage-inspired watches at a price people could actually reach. The current name keeps that origin: AV for About Vintage, 86 for the year both founders were born. The first model, the 1564 Concinnus, arrived in 2014; the 1815 Chronograph and the flagship store on Gothersgade in central Copenhagen followed in 2016, and the 1844 Chronograph, still the best seller, in 2017. The watches are designed in Copenhagen and built with Finnish 316L stainless steel, sapphire crystals and Swiss and Japanese movements from Sellita and Miyota.
The catalogue is organised into families named after years. It runs from the 1564 Chronodate Automatic and the 1815 and 1844 chronographs to the 1904 Chrono, the brand's first non-round case, the 1934 Telechron, the square 1954 Amalfi Mechanical, the 1956 Marine diver in quartz and automatic (41 mm, compass bezel, sapphire, around 499 dollars), the 1960 Racing chronograph and the 1968 line, which covers the SixtyEight dress watch, a hand-wound Mechanical and a Moonphase. The Fandangos rounds it out as a children's collection. Prices run roughly from 249 to 599 dollars. Domed crystals, slim cases and heirloom-styled dials carry across the range, engraving is offered free, and the brand has worked on limited editions with Newcastle United, AC Milan, FC Kobenhavn and WWF Denmark.
