CITIZEN WATCH GROUP: A JOURNEY INTO THE CANADA FALL MEDIA PREVIEW
WatchDNA attended a special media presentation by Citizen Group Canada in Toronto, where Thomas J. Sandrin , founder of WatchDNA, and Cagdas Onen , a contributor to the platform, had the opportunity to take a closer look at some of the group's latest releases and watches. Citizen , Bulova , Accutron , Alpina and Frederique Constant were represented during the event, which also provided an opportunity to connect with professionals and members of the watch community.
A Presentation Bringing Several Brands Together
During the event, the Citizen Group Canada team presented a selection of new watches covering different styles and segments. The selection included releases from Watches and Wonders , new fall launches and special collaborations.
Mikhail Gomes, Strategic Marketing Communicator & Strategist, explained that Citizen is celebrating 50 years of its Eco-Drive technology and presented the Citizen Photon, a limited titanium edition powered by light. The presentation also included new watches from Bulova , Accutron , Alpina and Frederique Constant .
For Thomas and Cagdas , the event was also an opportunity to take a closer look at some of the products that could potentially become part of future WatchDNA reviews.
Accutron and the connection between analog and digital
One of the first stops focused on Accutron. Among the watches presented were the Accutron Astronaut and Spaceview 314, as well as the Spaceview 2020 and Spaceview DNA.

The Accutron Astronaut is made from 904L stainless steel and is a dive watch with 100 meters of water resistance. It features an automatic movement, is Swiss Made and incorporates Accutron's signature tuning fork technology.

With the Spaceview 314, a power cell supplies energy to two capacitors, creating a magnetic field that resonates with a tuning fork. This system provides accuracy and stability.

The presentation also explained how the Spaceview 2020 and Spaceview DNA operate. In these models, kinetic energy is converted into electrostatic energy, which powers two turbines responsible for operating the hands. The conversation presented these technologies as a connection between analog and digital watchmaking.

Bulova presents the Shelby, Marc Anthony and Lunar Pilot Black Hole
Bulova had a significant presence during the presentation with several watches showcasing different aspects of the brand.
One of the highlights was the Bulova Shelby, developed in collaboration with Carroll Shelby or his firm and inspired by the 1969 Daytona Coupe. The watch features a chrome and high-polished finish, while the numerals on the dial recall the instrument cluster of an automobile.

The bracelet combines brushed elements with polished surfaces, while the dial has a mirror-like finish. Depending on the surrounding light, the surface can reflect different tones, including pink and blue hues.

Tyler Frederick, Assistant Brand Manager, explained the model's automotive inspiration and its connection to Carroll Shelby's legacy.
The presentation also included the Marc Anthony collection and the Goddess of Time line, featuring traditional ladies' watches in a smaller format. These pieces take a more jewelry-oriented approach while maintaining traditional watchmaking elements and Bulova's design language.

Another highlight was the Lunar Pilot Black Hole, featuring a Musou Black dial described during the presentation as capable of absorbing 99.4% of light. The difference from Vanta Black was also discussed. Vanta Black reaches 99.9% light absorption but is subject to a more restrictive patent, while Musou Black has a commercialized patent.

The Lunar Pilot Black Hole also features a 41 mm case compared with the 43 mm traditional Lunar Pilot. Its matte finish and more compact dimensions, including a shorter lug-to-lug length, give the watch a smaller overall presence on the wrist.
Alpina and a return to Citizen
The visit continued with several Alpina models, where Thomas and Cagdas explored watches featuring aviation-inspired elements, cushion-shaped cases, different colors and rubber straps. Some prototypes were also presented, offering a look at different design directions from the brand.

The tour ended once again with Citizen and the Photon, a titanium watch featuring Eco-Drive technology that Thomas and Cagdas had previously seen at JCK. The Citizen team explained that 200 units would be available in Canada, with an estimated retail price of between 1,500 and 1,600.

An evening of connections within the watch community
Beyond the watches themselves, the event also gave Thomas and Cagdas the opportunity to reconnect with different members of the community. Among them were Mikhail and Tyler, who had previously contributed to WatchDNA.
The conversations also opened the door to future collaborations and potential reviews of some of the watches presented during the event. For Thomas, these encounters represent an opportunity to connect with people who share the same passion for watches and continue expanding the WatchDNA community.
The meeting with Citizen Group Canada offered a closer look at some of the latest releases from its different brands, from Accutron and Eco-Drive technology to the latest proposals from Bulova and Alpina. At the same time, it was another opportunity to share a passion for watchmaking, connect with industry professionals and continue building relationships within the watch community.
