His life changed dramatically when he was sent to live with his mother. Instead of finding stability, Hall endured years of verbal abuse and violence. At just thirteen years old, he was forced to leave home and survive largely on his own, relying on determination, resourcefulness, and the kindness of others. At sixteen, Hall immigrated to Canada to live with a father he barely knew. The transition brought new opportunities, but also new challenges. Adjusting to a different country, culture, and climate while navigating financial hardship and uncertainty was far from easy. By the age of eighteen, he was once again living independently, determined to build a better future through education, hard work, and an unwavering belief that his circumstances would not define his destiny.

1. Looking Back
When you reflect on your journey from rural Jamaica to becoming one of Canada's most influential business leaders, what moment stands out as the turning point that changed everything?
The turning point was the bank saying no. When I wanted to start Kingsdale Advisors, I could not get the loan. I mortgaged my own home for $100,000 and bet everything on a belief that nobody else had validated yet. But if I am being honest, the real turning point started long before that. I started in the mailroom of a Bay Street law firm wearing a suit every single day. Not because the job required it, but I had already decided who I was becoming. The decision to carry yourself as the person you intend to be, and the willingness to bet on yourself when the world has not yet caught up, is what built everything that came after.
2. Entrepreneurship
What is the most important lesson you have learned from building Kingsdale Advisors that every entrepreneur should understand before launching a business?
The most important lesson I have learned from building Kingsdale is one nobody wants to hear before they start: you are going to hear "no." A lot. You will hear it from banks, clients, and investors. And the no is not always fair. What separates the entrepreneurs who build something lasting from the ones who stop is not talent. It is resilience. The ability to hear no, extract whatever lesson is inside it, and keep moving anyway. The question is never whether you will hear no. You will. The question is what you decide to do the morning after.
3. The Passion for Watches
When did your appreciation for watches begin, and do you remember the first meaningful timepiece you owned or purchased for yourself?
My appreciation for watches began early in my career on Bay Street. I noticed that the key players in the room wore serious timepieces, not as status symbols but as reflections of precision, discipline, and attention to detail. A watch is one of the few accessories that actually does something. It is a philosophy worn on the wrist. How do you capture something as invisible and relentless as time and make it tangible? I have always found that question endlessly compelling.
The first piece I purchased for myself was a Rolex, bought at a moment when Kingsdale was beginning to flourish. That watch told me I had arrived somewhere, not because of what it cost, but because of what it represented. A reminder that hard work and sacrifice had begun to pay off. I eventually gave it to my son, along with the same advice it had silently given me: keep working hard and let the results speak for themselves.
4. If You Could Keep Only One Watch
If you could keep only one watch from your collection for the rest of your life, which timepiece would it be and what makes it so special?
That is a question that keeps collectors up at night. The one I would keep is my Romain Jerome Moon Dust DNA 1996 because of the story attached to it. It contains real moon dust from the lunar surface, material that has existed longer than any of us can comprehend. The bezel contains steel fragments from Apollo 11 mission equipment, and the strap is crafted using rubber and woven spacesuit fiber. Having something connected to one of humanity's greatest achievements on your wrist is, quite literally, timeless.
Every time I look at it, I am reminded that there are things far bigger than us. There was a time when people looked up at the moon and believed it was beyond our reach. Space seemed unimaginable and unexplorable. Yet through relentless determination, we achieved what once seemed impossible.
To wear a piece of that story on my wrist is a reminder that today's impossibilities can become tomorrow's realities. Every watch in a collection has a story. The watch you keep forever is the one whose story you never want to lose. This one reminds me to never stop believing that extraordinary things are possible.

5. Latest Acquisition
What is the most recent watch you purchased or received, and what attracted you to that particular piece?
The most recent watch I acquired was not for me. It was a Cartier for my wife, Christine, to mark our 34th wedding anniversary. You cannot buy time back. But what you can do is mark the moments that matter most with something worthy of them. That piece was my way of saying that I measure our love not in years but in moments and that every single one has been worth keeping.
