In 2025, Bulova proudly celebrates its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of innovation and excellence in watchmaking. Founded in 1875 by Joseph Bulova in New York City, the brand has consistently pushed the boundaries of timekeeping, introducing numerous industry firsts and setting new standards in precision and design.
Bulova has launched an interactive museum experience to celebrate. This digital journey allows enthusiasts to explore the brand's most memorable milestones and innovations over the past 150 years. It comprehensively examines Bulova's contributions to watchmaking and its influence on popular culture.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, we had the privilege of attending an exclusive event hosted by RedBar Toronto. The gathering featured a documentary screening that delved into Bulova's history, highlighting its pioneering spirit and technological advancements. Following the screening, we engaged in insightful discussions with the Canadian team, gaining a deeper understanding of the brand's DNA and its legacy of innovation.
One of the key topics explored during the event was Bulova's longstanding advocacy for women's rights and its commitment to gender equality. This legacy dates back to the early 20th century when Bulova became one of the first watch brands to create timepieces for women, celebrating their evolving societal roles.
A significant milestone in this journey was introducing the Rubaiyat collection, one of the earliest watches designed exclusively for women. This commitment extended beyond design— Bulova was also an early advocate for workplace inclusivity, employing women in prominent roles within its company when such practices were uncommon.
The event highlighted how this commitment to equality remains at the heart of the brand's DNA. Through its creations and initiatives, Bulova continues to celebrate women and support their aspirations, reflecting the brand's progressive values, which were truly ahead of their time.
Throughout its history, Bulova has been at the forefront of numerous industry advancements, from pioneering radio and television advertising to contributing to space exploration with timepieces used during NASA missions. The brand's dedication to innovation and excellence resonates with watch enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. As Bulova celebrates its 150th anniversary, it remains committed to honoring its storied past while looking toward the future. It will continue to craft timepieces that blend tradition with modernity.
