For over two decades, IWC Schaffhausen and the world of motorsports have flirted on and off track — its latest manifestation is the F1: The Movie (2025), described by Director Joseph Kosinski as “the most authentic, realistic, and grounded racing movie ever made”. Celebrating their partnership, IWC unveiled a quartet of novelties, inspired by the film’s ‘APXGP’ livery, including a limited edition matcha green-dial Ingenieur Automatic 40 co-designed by Brad Pitt. Last week, L’ORO, Toronto’s most trusted destination for luxury timepieces, hosted an exclusive experiential preview, ‘Driven by Precision’, showcasing the new IWC novelties at their Bloor St. boutique.
L'ORO channelled F1’s adrenaline by placing watch enthusiasts in the driver’s seat of an IWC/APXGP F1 cockpit (thanks to Toronto Racing Simulator), delivering a hands-on experience of the same mechanical mastery, precision engineering, and craftsmanship that fuels motorsports. This high-octane simulation lets participants take the wheel of the APXGP F1 car and experience the thrill of racing on the legendary Silverstone Circuit in the UK. Inspired by ‘Sonny Hannes’, the film’s main character, played by Brad Pitt and the new IWC x F1 capsule, L’ORO also presented a cocktail menu with titles like ‘The 35’, ‘The Apex’, and ‘The Sonny’
Green Flag, Green Dial: Ingenieur Automatic 40 Limited Edition
The showstopper from IWC’s F1 special edition capsule is the Ingenieur Automatic 40 (Ref. IW328908), inspired by the watch sported by Brad Pitt in the film. This 40-millimetre version of the foundational Ingenieur SL 1832 gets a delectable matcha (olive green) dial, picked by Brad Pitt to represent his character, Sonny Hayes. Upon the Ingenieur’s signature grid guilloche dial, the matcha green is contrasted by golden hands and gold-plated indexes, dipped in Super-LumiNova®. Powered by an IWC-manufactured calibre 32111, it offers a 120-hour power reserve. Limited to 1000 pieces, while one was present with us and ready to be delivered to a L’ORO client.
Trio of Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronographs
Strategy, safety, and teamwork are critical aspects of motorsport, but what separates winners from losers, is time. Champions and legacies and made and lost within fractions of a second. Embodying IWC's eternal passion for precision, performance, and avant-garde engineering, their new F1 trio of ‘Performance Chronographs’ is designed to mark these moments of glory. Draped in the signature hues of the film’s APXGP and worn by Damson Idris’ character Joshua Pearce, the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388309) is cast out of 18-carat 5N gold with a black lacquered dial and ceramic tachymeter bezel.
On a subtler note, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP (Ref. IW378009) and Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 APXGP (Ref. IW388116) boast a stainless-steel case measuring 43 millimetres and 41 millimetres, respectively. Accompanying the triple registers on the dial are a ‘day’ and ‘date’ window at three o’clock. All three chronographs are equipped with IWC’s automatic calibre 68385, which delivers a 46-hour power reserve. All these are rubber-strapped with IWC's EasX-change system. As a final treat, the tinted casebacks boast a golden ‘APXGP’ branding.
