2024 CJA INDUSTRY SUMMIT: STRENGTHENING CANADA’S JEWELLERY SECTOR

The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) recently hosted its 2024 Industry Summit in Toronto, creating a dynamic platform for jewellery professionals to connect, share insights, and address current trends and challenges in the industry. Held at The St. Regis Toronto, the event attracted retailers, designers, suppliers, and thought leaders, aiming to elevate Canada’s jewellery industry standards and resilience.

 

The Vision of CJA: Unity and Strength

CJA’s dedication to supporting industry members through advocacy, certification, and resources was central to this summit. The association, renowned for fostering integrity and professionalism in Canada’s jewellery sector, used this year’s event to underscore the importance of unity amid evolving economic and technological landscapes.

 

 

Key Sessions: Insights and Innovation

One of the keynote speakers was Joe Jackman, a transformation strategist and the CEO of Jackman Reinvents. With over 30 years of experience in helping organizations redefine their purpose and accelerate growth, Joe is known as a pioneer in reinvention and a trusted advisor to top retail, consumer, and brand leaders. At the summit, he shared invaluable insights on navigating change, focusing on how jewellers can harness transformation to adapt to evolving market dynamics and consumer expectations. His approach encourages companies to build resilience and drive long-term success through innovation and strategic clarity.

 

Joe Jackman, Jackman Reinvents, closed out the day's education sessions with a riveting session that helped bridge the gap between customers and your brand.

 

Another keynote speaker was Wendy Swanson from Etymon Group, a Canadian consulting firm renowned for helping luxury brands and retailers unlock growth through strategic insights and brand-building expertise. With a rich background in high-end retail and extensive experience guiding brands toward market resilience and customer-centric innovation, Wendy offered invaluable perspectives on creating lasting value in a competitive landscape. Her session provided practical strategies for Canadian jewellers to adapt to evolving consumer expectations, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and connection in building strong brand loyalty.

Wendi Swanson, Etymon Group, involved the audience with an interactive session demonstrating how to optimize your sell-through formula.

Other engaging topics included ‘MythBusters: Uncovering the Truth about Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance,’ by David Vijan of Outlier Solutions Inc., and ‘Going Beyond Insurance’ by Mark Devereaux from Jewelers Mutual. Additionally, attendees benefited from two highly informative panel discussions: ‘Securing the Holidays: A Proactive Approach to Crime Prevention’ and ‘The Quest for Q4: Strategies to Maximize Sales Potential.’

One of the evening’s highlights was the prestigious Erol Paylan Lifetime Achievement Award, an honour that celebrates excellence and dedication within the industry. This year, this lifetime achievement award was presented to Greg and Jeff Buzbuzian, founders of KNAR Jewellery, a family business established in 1978. This accolade is a testament to Knar Jewellery’s enduring commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer experience.

 

Greg and Jeff’s heartfelt acceptance speech was moving; their words radiated the love and passion these two industry leaders share for one another, their dedicated team, and the jewellery industry.
