There are watches that tell time and there are watches that tell stories. The new Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 North American Limited Edition celebrates more than seven decades of aeronautical legacy with a refined, modern and deeply collectible execution.
A classic, now more exclusive
Limited to 300 pieces and available exclusively in the United States and Canada, this Navitimer presents an elegant silver dial with black subdials, a 43 mm stainless steel case and a brown alligator leather strap that adds warmth and character. On the reverse, the engraving “ONE OF 300” and “LIMITED EDITION” confirms its exclusivity.
Beyond its impeccable aesthetics, what truly defines it is its history.
The watch that was born to fly
In 1952, Willy Breitling developed a wrist chronograph equipped with a circular slide rule that allowed essential calculations to be performed by pilots in mid flight. Two years later, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the largest aviators’ club in the world, adopted the design as its official timepiece. Its iconic winged logo was placed at 12 o’clock, giving life to the “navigation timer”, or simply Navitimer.
During the golden age of civil aviation, it became the reference watch for airline captains and aviation enthusiasts. In 1962 it even traveled into space on the wrist of astronaut Scott Carpenter.
It was not only pilots who were drawn to its design. Figures such as Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg proved that the Navitimer was both a technical instrument and a statement of style.
Mechanical tradition with contemporary engineering
This new limited edition preserves the codes that made the Navitimer an icon:
- Circular slide rule
- Notched bezel
- Three chronograph counters
- Baton indexes
At the same time it incorporates subtle but decisive improvements. The leveled slide rule and the domed crystal provide a slimmer profile. The combination of polished and brushed surfaces offers a sophisticated and balanced finish.
The open caseback reveals the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, certified by the COSC, with more than 70 hours of power reserve and a five year warranty. The streamlined oscillating weight enhances the view of the movement and the date, discreetly integrated into the subdial at 6 o’clock, can be adjusted at any time.
As a nostalgic touch, the original AOPA wings return to their historic position at 12.
More than a watch, a personal symbol
The Navitimer was born as a navigation tool, but today it represents something much broader, the idea of charting one’s own course. It is a watch for those who value heritage, mechanical precision and purposeful design.
With this limited edition for North America, Breitling reaffirms its ability to combine history, innovation and exclusivity in a single piece. In a market saturated with launches, this Navitimer does not need exaggeration to stand out. Its legacy speaks for itself.
